5 Things Your Small Business Website Is Missing (That Are Costing You Leads)

Your Website Looks Fine. It Just Doesn't Work.

Here's something nobody tells small business owners: having a website and having a website that works are two completely different things.

Your site might look professional. It might even rank okay on Google. But if visitors aren't turning into leads, something's broken. And in our experience, it usually comes down to one of these five things.

1. No Clear Call to Action Above the Fold

"Above the fold" means what people see before they scroll. It's the most valuable real estate on your entire site. Most small business websites waste this space with a big hero image and a vague tagline. What should be there instead? A clear statement of what you do, who you do it for, and exactly one action you want them to take.

2. Contact Information That's Hard to Find

Your phone number should be in the header of every page. If you're a local business, your service area should be obvious within seconds. People who can't figure out how to reach you will just go to your competitor.

3. No Trust Signals

Trust signals are proof that you're legitimate: reviews, testimonials, certifications, years in business. At minimum, you need Google reviews linked on your site. Better: actual testimonials with names and photos.

4. Slow Load Times

If your site takes more than 3 seconds to load, you're losing visitors. Period. Test your site with Google's PageSpeed Insights. If you're scoring below 70 on mobile, you've got work to do.

5. No Mobile Optimization

More than half of web traffic is mobile now. Mobile optimization means text is readable without zooming, buttons are big enough to tap, and phone numbers are clickable.
